Ujamaa Place is home to me. Ujamaa is a place where you can do many things that help you in life, including getting your GED, Drivers License or a job. In my opinion Ujamaa Place is a great place for men to get their lives together.

Ujamaa Place is a safe haven for me and others. It is a place that I can gain more opportunities and meet more people who face the same life struggles.
Since May 5th, 2023, I have come so far from where I was months or even weeks ago. From the Ujamaa Place Staff to my Ujamaa Brothers, they have helped me through times I wanted to give up and do what I know best. They helped me with one on ones, to group talks with certain issues in my life. The talks have given me a better vision of how I want to carry myself.
I have gone back to school, and I am in class every Tuesday and Wednesday days, studying and working hard to get my GED. I appreciate Ujamaa Place for having the Education Program. I also appreciate the Housing Program, that preps you for moving up and out into your own apartment. Ujamaa Place has also helped me through my rough journey and they have been understanding and helpful with setbacks. I appreciate Ujamaa Place for seeing the progress that I have made and the effort that I have put in. I appreciate the Awards and the man of the month Award. Ujamaa Place has become a big part of my journey and my life. I think more, young brothers should come to Ujamaa Place, use and work the sources Ujamaa Place has to offer.
I came to Ujamaa Place in 2020, around the time when the George Floyd incident happened. I came to Minnesota to be with my father, but things didn’t turn out that way. Ujamaa Place helped me find an identity as a strong, positive Black Man and not just some criminal in the streets. My relationship with the coaches and camaraderie with the brothers here gave me a sense of family that was missing in my life. The programs, classes, work assignments, and events helped me figure out my career path and how I want to affect the world. Last, but not least, the housing, employment opportunities, and support helped me build myself as a man.
Thank You, Ujamaa Place
