Lead Grant Writer

Francina Carter began her work at Ujamaa Place in 2020 as Advancement Associate. In this capacity, she works with the Advancement team to secure funding for Ujamaa Place by researching grant opportunities and writing grant proposals, grant reports, and newsletter articles. She has over 42 years of experience as an educator and trainer, first as an English teacher in Montgomery Public Schools in Alabama; then as an institutional education supervisor with the Minnesota Department of Corrections at Minnesota Correctional Facility-Lino Lakes; and finally, as a correctional program specialist in the U.S. Department of Justice, National Institute of Corrections in Washington, DC. Ms. Carter received her B.A. in English from Spelman College and an M.A. in educational administration from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota. Her role as Advancement Associate is a perfect fit for her, as it combines her expertise in writing with her passion for assisting individuals to develop their full potential and to reach their personal goals.
